Did I come up with this??

In my endevors to teach myself to crochet I made a small boo-boo, which ended up being completely fine with me. I started my 2nd project, my son's blanket, the idea was to do it similar to my blanket, a bunch of squares (not technically granny squares, as they didnt start from the center, swatches? perhaps would be the correct term) I did my blanket in a single crochet stitch, his was to be done in a double crochet stitch. I didnt figure out that I did the double crochet on his blanket swatches wrong until I set it aside to play around with other things and did a lot of looking around on yarn and craft sites,came across a video tutorial on lionbrand.com found out how to correctly do a double crochet. The thing is I like the way the incorrectly done double crochet looks, but I can't find other stitches other then Single crochet, half-double crochet, double crochet, and tripple crochet, it is deffinatly none of those. I'm wondering if this is a new stitch I came up with?, its it commom for people just to make up their own?
